Barbarians fell Giants with Last Gasp Try.

sbrlfc news

Scunthorpe Barbarians maintained their 4 match unbeaten run, with a last gasp victory against a Rotherham Giants side that should have been despatched a lot easier and earlier.

It was a game where both defences were on top form, and this was proven
with the fact that it took 20 minutes for the home side to get their
first score. It came with Daz Williams bounding over from close range,
creating havoc in the Rotherham defence, carrying two would be tacklers
over with him. Jason Eagles then added a second a short time afterwards,
making the decision to run for the tryline on the last tackle, despite
the fact he had men supporting on either side, and ducked a tackle to score.

Five minutes before half time, Rotherham cut the defecit to just one
try, with a converted try of their own.

Many observers stated that this was the best half of rugby seen at Ashby
Decoy all season.

Half time score – 10-6

If the first halfs rugby was entertaining, then the second could only be
described as tense. The Barbarians opened the scoring with Karl Clayton
charging in for the try following an excellent break from his own half
from winger Rewiti Vaimoso, Clayton converted to put the home team 10
points up.

Another try wasn’t that far off, with Lewis Jones being in the right
place to find a gaping hole in the visitors defence to touch down to one
side for a great team worked try.

If it seemed to be plain sailing for the hosts, then the effort from the
Rotherham team was to prove otherwise, scoring 3 tries in less than 10
minutes to close the gap to 2 points.

The visitors then scored, what they believed to be a winning try, going
over on the left hand side to put them 2 points in front with only 90
seconds left, but, visiting hearts were broken, as with time running
out, the Barbarians worked a two on one overlap, and David Johnson made
the most of the space, touching down in the corner to win the game. Karl
Clayton converted from the touchline to seal the win.

Final Score – 26 – 22

Tries – D.Williams, J.Eagles, K.Clayton, L.Jones, D.Johnson
Goals – K.Clayton – 3/5

match, with a first half hat trick from Mark Stow along with a tries
from Nathan Clark and Tom Parkinson putting them 28-10 up at half time
against Barton Bulldogs. Second half tries from Mark Nottingham, Craig
Wingfield, Roy Mould, and another pair from Clark (giving him his hat
trick) took the hosts past 50 points for the first time in the league
