About Scunthorpe Barbarians
About Scunthorpe Barbarians RLFC
Scunthorpe Barbarians formed in 2007 from the Braves club, which was formed in 2006 by Ian McBride and Rich Robinson.
The 2006 season saw the club spend the season in the Midland Merit League, playing competitive fixtures all over Yorkshire and North East Lincolnshire, finally finishing 4th out of 6 teams in the League.
The 2007 season saw the club join forces with Scunthorpe RUFC, and operated out of the Heslam Park base of the Union side.
After winning the first game of the season against Rossington Sharks, it was became a bit of a struggle for a win, with the elusive second win being picked up against Scarborough Pirates after the Barbarians were closely beaten by Lincoln.
The club finished the season in 7th position out of 8, after winning 2 and drawing one of their 12 games.
The 2008 season, once again saw the Barbarians play in the Rugby League Conference, this time a slightly more local division, with the furthest distance to travel being to Sheffield Forgers. There were good victories against Sheffield and Rossington at Ashby, with the only away success of the season being at Rotherham Giants.
A team was also entered into the RLMerit League (formerly the Midlands Merit League), and although the team failed to win a game all season, many opponents were impressed by the application and effort by the players.
The 2009 season will once more see two teams in operation by the Barbarians, with the coaching staff hoping to improve on last seasons solid foundations.
